Energy-Efficient Compressed Air Solution for Foam Packaging Production


A foam box manufacturing factory in Australia was looking to improve the stability and energy efficiency of its compressed air system for continuous production operation. In foam packaging manufacturing, compressed air is widely used in molding, pneumatic control, automated handling, and cooling processes. During foam box forming especially, stable airflow helps accelerate cooling and improve molding consistency, directly affecting production efficiency and product quality. To support the factory’s daily operation, Olymtech supplied 4 sets of CMP Series 110kW VSD screw compressors, delivering stable compressed air across different production stages.

    The factory operates continuously with fluctuating air demand throughout the production process. Traditional fixed-speed systems often result in unnecessary energy consumption during partial-load operation, increasing long-term operating costs. At the same time, the customer required:

    Olymtech Solution
    Olymtech provided a VSD compressed air solution combined with waste heat recovery systems to improve both operational stability and energy efficiency.

    The CMP Series VSD compressors automatically adjust motor speed according to actual air demand, helping reduce unload losses and unnecessary power consumption during fluctuating production cycles.

    In addition, all compressor units were equipped with waste heat recovery systems to reuse thermal energy generated during compressor operation, further improving overall energy utilization.

    Results
    The system has been running steadily in the factory for years, supporting reliable daily production. One of the compressors has been operating since 2017 and has accumulated: 10,817 running hours 524,288 kWh total power consumption Under actual production conditions, the 110kW VSD compressor achieved an average operating power of approximately 48.5kW, demonstrating effective energy-saving performance in long-term operation. By combining stable air supply, VSD technology, and heat recovery systems, the customer achieved improved production reliability, lower energy consumption, and more sustainable factory operation.
